what is democracy...?

The term "democracy" comes from the Greek words "demos,"

meaning citizen of a city-state, and "Kratos," meaning power

or rule. Democracy is a fundamental value of the United

Nations, which emphasizes respect for human rights and

freedoms, as well as the principle of holding regular and

genuine elections by universal suffrage. In a democratic

system, citizens have the power to elect their leaders and

participate in decision-making processes that affect their

lives. To promote and uphold these principles of democracy

worldwide, the United Nations General Assembly established

the International Day of Democracy in 2007.

International Day of Democracy 2023

when is democracy day?

Established in 2007 by the United Nations General Assembly, September 15 is celebrated as International Day of Democracy.

 what is democracy History?

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) established

the International Day of Democracy on November 8, 2007, to

support governments in promoting and consolidating new or

restored democracies. This day exists because of the

Universal Declaration on Democracy, which the Inter-

Parliamentary Union (IPU), an international organization of

national parliaments, was adopted on September 15, 1997.

Qatar took the lead in promoting an

International Day of

Democracy in the following years. The IPU suggested

celebrating the occasion on September 15 to commemorate

the adoption of the Universal Declaration on Democracy 10

years prior. The first celebration of the International Day of

Democracy took place in 2008. Please note that the text has

been reviewed for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.

International day of democracy activities:

been elected, encourage the students to share the outcomes

of their democratic process on the American English

Facebook page!
